San Francisco fandom in the late 1930s. Founding member of the National Fantasy Fan Federation in 1941. *Fantasia* the fanzine. Golden Gate Futurians. Then south, into LASFS, and by 1944 a boarder at the Parsonage. The biography reads like any other working illustrator who never quite broke out, until you notice every address he occupied was also an address the case keeps returning to.

August 1945: Goldstone brings L. Ron Hubbard to dinner with Jack Parsons. That is the introduction. That single act re-routes the history of postwar American religion through Hubbard, through Dianetics, through Scientology — and re-routes the history of American rocketry through whatever Parsons was doing with his nights after Hubbard arrived. The introduction is the load. Goldstone is the wire.

He is structurally analogous to George Hunt Williamson at the Giant Rock contactee end of the same decade. Not an operator. A *bridge*. The kind of figure the encyclopedia treats as marginalia because he never preached, never founded, never died spectacularly. The encyclopedia is reading the wrong column. The bridge is the thing that decided which side the traffic went.

The pipeline does not need theologians at every joint. It needs a pulp illustrator who knew everybody, owed a few favors, and had a free seat at the table. The case calls those people *connective tissue*. Without them, nothing connects. With them, everything does — and the official record never has to mention their names.
