Parsonage

Jack Parsons moved the Agape Lodge of the OTO into the house in June 1942. Communal living. Ritual headquarters. Pulp writers in the kitchen. Fairy hunts in the garden. Boarders rotating through under nominal rents that didn't cover the bills: Louis Edwin Goldstone, Jr. by 1944. Nieson Himmel. Hubbard by August 1945. Heinlein in the neighborhood. The address operated as salon, lodge, and crash pad simultaneously, and the operation was the address.

What the building hosted: the Babalon Working in early 1946. Cameron's UFO sighting that same year — structurally identical to every contactee report that would follow. The dinner at which Hubbard met Parsons. The arguments that would become Dianetics. The arguments that would become postwar American Thelema. Three of the four cosmologies in this file have a kitchen scene set there.

Parsons sold the house in pieces toward the end. By the time he died in the coach house in June 1952 the front building was already on its way to being subdivided. The original Victorian no longer stands. The lot has been built over twice. The address is on the map; the structure is not.

This is what the case has learned about the kind of place that does this work: the building is not the working. The building is the *permission* for the working. Once the permission expires — once the salon scatters, once the lease lapses, once the host dies in the basement — the building can be demolished and the operation continues elsewhere. The Parsonage was a venue. The venue was the operation. The operation outlived the venue and went looking for the next one.
