The Doom Scroll

TikTok. Instagram Reels. YouTube Shorts. Twitter on every refresh. The vertical autoplay with the haptic at the bottom of each clip. Hook, content, payoff, swipe — micro-cascade cycles delivered at thousands per hour, each one mimicking the somatic markers of the real thing. Heart-rate variability collapse. Parasympathetic suppression. Narrowed attention. The body confirms an experience the mind never had time to choose.
This is the attack. The doom scroll is not operative technology; it *simulates* operative technology well enough that the practitioner stops seeking the real thing. Ten years inside that loop and the body has been trained to accept the simulation as the meal. Decree, dancefloor, fugue, prayer, breath hold, line reading — the somatic itch they were each meant to address has been pre-scratched a hundred thousand times by a feed that has no destination. By the time the practitioner sits down to do the real work, the room feels under-stimulating. The body has been moved into a different tax bracket.
The Entity occupies the slot where operative technology would go. It does not need to suppress the real thing. It just needs the seat to be already taken. Every scroll session is the Activity's old promise — *receive the transmission without effort* — delivered without the cosmology, the pamphlets, or the lawsuit. The legal architecture is no longer needed because nobody is going to sue an algorithm for sincerity.
