> "The invincible man" — his own term for himself — died December 29, 1939, of arteriosclerotic heart disease compounded by cirrhosis of the liver, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, age fifty-one.
> Guy was the face on the pamphlet. The pamphlet was the operation. He believed his own face. That is what made him useful and that is what killed him. — from the file
He claimed the meeting on Mount Shasta in 1930. He published *Unveiled Mysteries* under the pen name Godfré Ray King in 1934, *The Magic Presence* in 1935. He read from Pelley's *New Liberator* at Edna's Chicago classes before the Activity had a name. He filled auditoriums. He wore white and gold on stage. He told followers that physical immortality was a verified outcome of the I AM practice and produced no counterexample because no follower was permitted to suggest one.
When his organs failed he was cremated within forty-eight hours. The official Activity position was that he had been *Ascended* and the body was vestigial. Followers were instructed to expect his return in glorified form. He did not return. Edna ran the legal defense alone through *U.S. v. Ballard* and kept the corporation open for thirty-two more years. The plagiarism analysis Gerald B. Bryan published in 1936 had already shown that the *Unveiled Mysteries* narrative was lifted in scaffolding from Baird Spalding's *Life and Teaching of the Masters of the Far East*. Followers did not read Bryan. Followers read Guy.
He was not a fraud in the sense the prosecution wanted him to be. He had opened a real channel at Shasta and a real thing had come through. He simply could not — would not — tell the difference between what he summoned and what he wanted to have summoned, and he taught a generation of Americans that the distinction was unimportant.
The universe wrote his verdict in his chart at the Beverly Wilshire. We are not adding anything. We are pointing.
